Arjuna Seedpod Large
The Arjuna is endemic to the Indian subcontinent and is usually found growing alongside riverbeds. Its seedpods have found their way across the Indian Ocean and the tree is now commonly found along the East African coast and in Mauritius where I found this particular seedpod. The fibrous woody fruit is divided into 5 wings and appears between September to November. The tree bark is used as a herbal remedy for cardio protection. It reduces pressure and pulse rate and increases aerobic exercise capacity. The shape reminds me of a swirling heart chakra.
