Knob Thorn Acacia Seedpod
This Acacia Tree has large leaves and a trunk that is covered in knobbly thorns, which offers some protection from elephants and other browsing animals who enjoy its highly nutritious shoots. Creamy white flowers appear in spring, shortly before the leaves. Seedpods are initially a reddish-purple but darken to dark brown and then fall to the ground before splitting open. Village healers grind the knobs into a powder which is used as a pain killer and to cure eye infections.
