Leadwood Seedpod Medium
The Leadwood Tree (Combretum imberbe) is one of the largest trees in Africa, capable of growing to 20m. The name comes from the fact that the wood is extremely dense and heavy. When dry this wood weighs 200kgs per cubic meter and so it is one of the only woods that will sink if dropped into water. The Ovambo people from Namibia never pass a Leadwood without paying respect to it as they believe the tree represents the great ancestor of all people and animals - possibly because it lives for thousands of years.
